Update: Get ready for Geneva delegation

We had an amazing 60 entries to the Get yourself to Geneva competition. A selection panel of five young people and two adults judged all the entries, and we’ve now selected the 12 people that will make up the delegation to Geneva.

In the Get ready for change! delegation we have 5 young people who have been involved in the project and 7 new volunteers from different parts of England. The people in the delegation are:

Lucy (9), Nathan (12), Jessica (12) Dominic (14), Jackson (14), Parham (15), Shamila (15), Adam (15), Usman (15), Alex (17), Imogen (17), and Laura (17).

All the members of the delegation went to a meeting at the end of April to prepare for going to Geneva. Most of the weekend was spent learning the findings and recommendations in the report (based on the children’s rights investigation). We also did lots of role play activities to practice talking about the findings to the UN Committee and journalists.

The main role of the delegation is to present the findings from the children’s rights investigation to UN Committee on the Rights of the Child in Geneva. Two members of the delegation will get to speak at the main committee meeting (called the pre-sessional) and the whole delegation will get to participate in an informal lunchtime session with members of the UN Committee and children from Wales and Scotland.

The delegation will be reporting back and there will be regular updates on the Get ready for change! website. Watch this space for more information!
